Xiao-Yu Song, M.D., Ph.D.
Xiao-Yu Song, M.D., Ph.D., is responsible for the Global R&D product development and commercialization. She is in charge of life cycle management support, as well as portfolio management and innovation governance.
Xiao-Yu leads a global team focused on delivering an industry-leading cadence of new products and solutions, with many industry firsts for patients with various vision correction and other unmet medical needs for eye health’s biggest problems.
Under her leadership, the Global Johnson & Johnson Vision R&D team continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in eye health to deliver the very best outcomes for patients across their lifetime.
Prior to her current role, Xiao-Yu served as Vice President of J&J’s Ethicon Biosurgery R&D where she set Biosurgery platform and innovation strategies, drove new product portfolio prioritization and management, and delivered a pipeline to drive business growth toward 10%. Under her leadership, the department devised and developed a diverse new product pipeline that are targeted toward 4 clearly identified areas of high unmet needs while leveraging internal know-how on polymer, blood derived biologics, biologics/device combination product and delivery device. Before that, Xiao-Yu held various R&D positions with increasing responsibilities in the biotechnology area of Janssen Pharmaceutical sector.
Xiao-Yu is a passionate sponsor of the WiSTEM2D team on the Jacksonville Campus as well as the University Hire pillar of Med Tech DE&I efforts. She has been awarded the Fiercest Women in Life Sciences Award in 2021 and serves on the University of North Florida Foundation Board and Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce.
